Resveratrol is a polyphenolic compound, one of many molecules that plants produce to protect themselves in stressful situations: injuries, infections by fungi or bacteria and exposure to ultraviolet rays. Resveratrol has an antioxidant action by acting as a scavenger of all forms of free radicals of both nitrogen and oxygen. This is due to its cardioprotective and anti-inflammatory action.

Resveratrol is useful in preventing menopausal and premenopausal disorders by being able to bind to the alpha and beta estrogen receptors.

Acerola is a shrubby tropical plant also known as manzanita, semeruco, Barbados cherry. It is native to Central America, probably from the Yucatan peninsula, from where it then spread to the Antilles and the rest of Latin America before spreading to the other continents. Its fruits have become sought after for the very high content of ascorbic acid.
